The mechanical upgrade of Tully, Innisfail, and Mareeba Hospitals on behalf of Queensland Health.

Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems at Tully and Innisfail Hospital Block 5 (Building 2) Hospitals were replaced, and the systems at Mareeba Hospital were upgraded.

Upgrades included new air-cooled chilled water plant and thermal storage tanks serving multiple Air Handling Units (AHU) and chilled water FanCoil Units (FCU).

The HVAC plant upgrades included new mechanical Services Switchboards (MSSB’s) and upgraded Building Management Systems (BMS) connecting the individual hospitals back to the Cairns Hospital.

All projects were undertaken within a live hospital environment, in remote communities. Work was pre-planned and programmed to incorporate measures to ensure the nursing staff were not disrupted during their rest periods which involved both business hours and after hours works.

Key Achievements:

  • Extensive stakeholder consultation and pre-planning of works to minimise disruption to hospital operations and to nursing staff accommodated on site
  • Due to the success of this project VAE have built a long-lasting relationship with Queensland Health Cairns Hospital and Hinterland Health Service (CHHHS) to provide on-going services
