VAE successfully completed a chiller plant upgrade at the University of Queensland Joint Engineering Precinct in 2019.

VAE were engaged to install three new Carrier AquaEdge chillers complete with Carrier i-Vu Chiller Plant Optimisation System, and installation of five new BAC Cooling Towers, new pump systems and new condenser water riser.

Collaboratively, the design team worked to overcome challenges of installing high capacity plant equipment into a compact area. Upgrades to the Uni’s plant was vital to facilitate the increase in campus infrastructure currently being undertaken.

The project was undertaken in live university environment, including critical laboratory areas of the campus. VAE completed the project without disruption to these operations. Our in-house logistics team, site management and communication with the client exceeded expectations, resulting in a very happy client and successful project.

#Challenges

  • Deliver the project without disruption to surrounding critical laboratory areas
  • Logistics (Install new cooling towers without risk to the public)
  • Adapt initial design to suit changing conditions and spacial restrictions Ensure new installation is access compliant

#Key Achievements

  • In-house logistics team
  • VAE Site Management was outstanding
  • Project Manager’s communication was exceptional Smarter engineering solutions, overcoming restricted spacial conditions
