VAE were awarded this project as Principal Contractor by Griffith University for the replacement of two air cooled Trane Chillers, and the associated primary and secondary chilled water pumps at the Griffith University, Mt. Gravatt Campus Building 24. The removal and reinstatement of roof elements were required to enable the removal and replacement of the existing chillers.

The existing chilled water pipe work was required to be modified to suit the replacement chillers, with the existing chillers demolished, and the existing MSSB upgraded. The campus wide Schneider BMS system was upgraded to suit the replacement plant with upgraded control strategies. The new replacement chillers consisted of one 784 kW dual screw, and one 201 kW scroll air cooled chillers.

The entire project was conducted within a “Live” University Campus requiring extensive pre-planning, and complex logistics due to site spatial constraints and limited access to the plantroom.
